There’s something about Waterside in spring that just hits different. Maybe it’s the shimmer of the V&A canals, maybe it’s that soft Cape breeze that carries the scent of possibility — or maybe it’s this downright joyous Spring Special menu that has everyone talking.
At R895 per person, this five-course lunch is less of a meal and more of a slow-blooming adventure. Things kick off light and bright with Yellowfin tuna swimming in a ponzu and Thai broth so delicate you could write poetry about it. The pork belly follows — sticky, rich, and rescued from indulgence by a flash of tamarind and kimchi, with a cheeky langoustine cameo that steals the show.
Then comes the mysterious “Cactus Garden”, a palate cleanser turned art installation — whimsical, green, and just the right amount of weird (you’ll love it). For mains, it’s a tough call between line fish with chorizo, mussel, and fennel — all smoky seaside sass — or lamb with celeriac and tarragon, a countryside classic with a wink.
Dessert is where it gets personal: local cheese if you’re feeling grown-up, or rhubarb and buckwheat with Foxenburg cheese if you’re still in a flirty mood.
Waterside’s spring offering is elegant but playful — a reminder that fine dining doesn’t have to be fussy. Go for the view, stay for the rhythm of flavours, and leave wondering how something this polished can feel so effortless.
Spring Special available for lunch only until 30 November 2025. Vegetarian menu available too.
