Mozambican Spice, Portuguese Soul, Sandton Style

Mira, Sandton’s most anticipated new restaurant, has opened its doors as a 200-seater Mozambican-Portuguese dining destination where heritage, craft, and multisensory design converge. Founded by Luke Dakers, Ben Stanger, and industry veteran George Sinovich, Mira balances old-world elegance with contemporary sophistication, offering refined intimacy for corporate leaders, travellers, and lifestyle-focused diners alike.

Occupying the storied former Villamoura and Alice & Fifth, Mira honours its past while reimagining it for a new era. The restaurant blends cinematic design, mirrored art, and soft lighting with textures of timber, marble, brass, and leather to create a space that feels both luxurious and transportive. From a whimsical ‘rabbit hole’ entrance to the dark, sculptural cocktail lounge, every detail sparks curiosity and conversation.

Under Head Chef William Lekoloane, the kitchen celebrates coastal Mozambican spices and Portuguese heritage with dishes that are generous, nostalgic, and refined. Highlights include Lulas Recheadas, Asas Piri Wings, Xai Xai Chicken, picanha, peri peri queen prawns, and prawn and cashew nut curry. Desserts nod to tradition with malva pudding, sago pudding, and MiraMade ice creams and sorbets.

The cocktail programme is equally immersive, featuring theatrical creations like Queen of Hearts, Garden Within, Dreamscape, and Pocket Universe, alongside expertly crafted classics.

Mira engages all the senses: scent, sound, texture, lighting, and taste combine to deliver a cohesive, immersive experience. Guests can enjoy lunch or dinner daily, with private dining set to debut in early 2026. Mira is a place where tradition meets innovation, restraint meets exuberance, and every visit is a sensory journey through Sandton’s newest culinary landmark.
