Ellerman House, the iconic boutique hotel overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, has expanded its culinary offering with the launch of a fine-dining restaurant- Curate. This new venture complements the hotel’s beloved à la carte restaurant, now renamed OneEighty.
Led by Head Chef Kieran Whyte, Curate presents a refined South African-inspired tasting menu where bold local flavours meet elegant craftsmanship. Each dish celebrates the land, the seasons, and the artistry behind it, combining Whyte’s experience working alongside Cape Town’s celebrated chef Peter Tempelhoff and renowned chefs across the Relais & Châteaux portfolio, of which Ellerman House has been a member since the 1990s.
Curate is housed in the hotel’s acclaimed Wine Gallery — an immersive architectural and sculptural space designed by renowned South African sculptor Angus Taylor that celebrates South Africa’s rich winemaking heritage dating back to 1659. This iconic space serves not only as a showcase for fine wine but as a living art installation in its own right. The interiors for Curate were thoughtfully brought to life by co-owner Nell Harris and Natalie Haarhof of Just Design, blending natural textures and refined aesthetics to create a warm, connected, and immersive dining environment.
The tasting experience is elevated by expert wine stewards who curate bespoke pairings from Ellerman House’s extensive 10,000-bottle cellar, ensuring every sip and bite tells a story of heritage and innovation — a seamless union of cuisine and terroir.
Since opening in 1988, Ellerman House has remained committed to showcasing the very best of South Africa’s art, wine, cuisine, and hospitality. The introduction of Curate marks the next step in that journey, offering guests a world-class culinary experience rooted in South African excellence.
