As the urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises grows, thousands will gather in the Overberg next April to put their hands in the soil and actively restore one of Africa’s most threatened ecosystems.
From 3–6 April 2026, the 15th annual Reforest Fest will transform Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat into a hub of restoration, creativity, and celebration. Hosted by environmental impact group, the Greenpop Foundation, this one-of-a-kind festival coalesces the energy of a music festival with large-scale restorative action.
At the Fest’s heart is a bold mission: to plant 5,000 indigenous trees in a single weekend. An action that will help to restore degraded landscapes that are vital to water security, biodiversity, and climate resilience in the Western Cape.
Over the past 15 years, Reforest Fest has mobilised a global community of volunteers and festival attendees, planting over 162,645 trees across Africa’s southernmost forest. Through the Uilenkraal project, 2026 will mark the fifth year of restoring the Uilenkraal Valley – the festival site – back to its original, thriving state.
“Reforest Fest has always served as a testament to the power of community,” says Misha Teasdale, Greenpop Co-Founder and CEO. “The answers to climate and biodiversity challenges are found when people come together to do the work—hands in the soil, restoring ecosystems. We’re excited to see the festival scale, grow, and become even more impactful in its 15th year.”
The festival also distinguishes itself by being carbon-negative, ensuring that every aspect—from waste management to energy use—is designed to leave the land better than before.
“Last year we achieved carbon neutrality, and this year we’re taking it further,” says Claudia Waller, Greenpop Events Manager. “Reforest Fest is proof that festivals can leave a positive legacy on the land. We’re proud to host another unforgettable weekend that celebrates nature, community, and restoration.”
Reforest Fest is about more than just planting trees. It’s a chance to connect with community while giving back to the land.
Through live music and DJs, poetry and performance, wellness sessions, hands-on workshops in eco-living, and panels with expert environmental speakers, Reforest Fest 2026 will show that cultural harmony goes hand in hand with ecological restoration.
By planting trees, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the beauty and purpose of the world around them, Reforest Fest 2026 participants will help restore the Overberg landscape while also contributing to the goals of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Connecting this local celebration with the global movement for ecological regeneration and climate action, festival-goers will play their part in ensuring a greener and healthier planet for all.
