Creedence – A Clearwater Revival at Franschhoek Cellar

Creedence - A Clearwater Revival at Franschhoek Cellar

In 1968, Creedence Clearwater Revival exploded onto the scene with their self-titled debut album, a raw, electrifying sound that cut through the haze of San Francisco’s psychedelic era.

Brothers John and Tom Fogerty, drummer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Cook weren’t chasing trends. Out of El Cerrito in the Bay Area, they blended blues, country, rockabilly, gospel, folk and R&B into gritty, timeless rock & roll.

The band came and went like a comet. Between 1968 and 1972 they released seven studio albums and hit the Top 10 singles chart nine times.

By 1970, the biggest band on earth was no longer The Beatles, but CCR.

South Africa was no exception. “Proud Mary” reached number 1 here, and CCR’s hits remain a staple of local radio and streaming today. From Latin America to Russia to Zimbabwe, they were huge everywhere.

Now, some of Cape Town’s finest musicians bring that sound back to the stage. Armand De Vries (vocals, guitar), Dave Goldberg (keys, vocals), Dieter Stutz (bass) and Adrian Mellema (drums, vocals) have decades of local and international experience between them, and a shared love of the music that has never gone out of style.

Expect the hits, played the way they should be: tight, honest and in the pocket.
