Okapi marks a new creative chapter with the introduction of the Cunard Collection, the debut collection by creative director Tiaan Nagel. Known for his distinctive editorial eye and deep engagement with contemporary culture, nagel brings a refined perspective to the brand, one that balances sculptural design, craftsmanship and cultural dialogue.
For this collection, Nagel initially explored sculptural forms from Constantin Brancusi, specifically la jeune fille sophistiquée, a 1932 portrait casting in polished bronze of Nancy Cunard, the 1920s avant-garde icon whose fearless advocacy for African art and culture helped shape a new global conversation around African identity.
“Cunard was a fascinating figure; intellectually fearless, visually arresting, with an irrepressible spirit,” says Nagel. “she moved between worlds and cultures with a sense of curiosity and conviction that felt incredibly modern. Her bold aesthetic — architectural, layered and expressive — was the departure point for the collection.”
The Cunard Collection translates this visual language into a series of sculptural handbag forms inspired by Brancusi’s sculpture and layered with inspiration from Cunard’s iconic jewellery stacks and styling, all reimagined through okapi’s commitment to craftsmanship and contemporary African luxury.

Each piece reflects a dialogue between past and present, where cultural reference, artisanal skill and modern design intersect.
“Okapi has always been grounded in craftsmanship and a deep respect for the materials and communities we work with,” says founder Hanneli Rupert. “with Tiaan’s creative direction, the brand continues to evolve while remaining true to the values that define Okapi. ”
The Cunard Collection continues okapi’s exploration of sculptural form, heritage craftsmanship and contemporary African luxury.
