The World, Residences at Sea will be sailing into Cape Town for an extended five-day visit in February and March before sailing on to Mossell Bay and Durban.
The World, the largest privately owned residential mega yacht on the planet (aboardtheworld.com) is pleased to announce it will be calling on South Africa for an extended visit during its spectacular 2024 journey to six continents. Resident owners of this private community at sea enjoy the ultimate combination of enriching travel to more than 100 ports of call a year, complemented by world-class amenities, state-of-the-art facilities, and anticipatory service.
The only ship of its kind in operation, The World offers a unique ultra-luxury lifestyle of global exploration that is internationally renowned for its journeys to many of the planet’s most remote and undiscovered regions.
The ship’s arrival in Cape Town in February follows an extraordinary expedition to Antarctica in January where Residents & Guests traced the footsteps of famed polar explorers and enjoyed numerous activities amid windswept scenery and incredible wildlife. February heralds a two-week journey to South America including Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and the virtually-untouched volcanic islands of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean before arriving in Cape Town.
South Africa is a favoured destination among Residents having visited on seven previous occasions. Several South African families call The World home including one who comments on what makes the ship so unique, “We as shareholders decide and establish the ship’s annual itinerary of countries to visit well in advance, and include expeditions to remote areas.” He adds, “In my opinion, having a private apartment on The World is far better, and less challenging than, the responsibilities associated with private ownership of one’s own super yacht.”
While in Cape Town, Residents & Guests will have the chance to explore the stunning Cape Winelands with exclusive visits to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, enjoy the city’s thriving art scene at the world-class Bijou and Christopher Moller Galleries, and soak in outstanding natural landscapes with a hike up Lions Head. Residents can see Cape Town through esteemed historian Dr. Dean Allen’s eyes as he delivers a private overview of the city’s history atop Table Mountain before guiding the group through significant landmarks and fascinating neighbourhoods.
The ship will then sail along the South African coast, spending time in Mossel Bay where Residents can snorkel among the area’s renowned marine life, before sailing on to Durban. From there, the chance to spot Africa’s “big five” in the wild bushveld awaits at Phinda Game Reserve.
After almost two weeks in South Africa, The World will go on to traverse the turquoise seas of Africa’s east coast, stopping along the way in Mozambique, Zanzibar and Kenya before a week spent among the white sands of the Seychelles. The World shall then set its course for four months exploration of Asia, from the cosmopolitan cultural centres of Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong to the more tranquil locations of Bali and Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.
