Capitec handmadeAFRICA 2025: They’re Back – Bolder and Bigger

Capitec handmadeAFRICA

Following the success of 2024’s debut, Capitec handmadeAFRICA returns in 2025 – with a series of new events and an even bigger platform to share the best of African design and future-forward retail.

“Afro-optimism is high on the creative agenda, and we are, once again, taking our place as leaders in the development of the continent’s creative pulse,” says Garreth van Niekerk, Creative Director, Capitec handmadeAFRICA.

Drawing from all corners of the continent, Capitec handmadeAFRICA will bring together more than 40 design brands, each adding their own offering to a carefully tailored and textured experience. Over three major events, the curatorial team will showcase a robust roster of luxury design brands who are distinct in their passion for Africa and commitment to its craftmanship.

Asha Patel, Head of Brand and Communications at Capitec says,

“Entrepreneurship and creative problem-solving are at the heart of Capitec – we began as a startup and grew into South Africa’s largest digital bank. We are excited to once again support African creativity, backing the designers and small businesses that shape our cultural and economic landscape. By investing in these creators, we celebrate our rich heritage while empowering African design to thrive on a global stage.”

A date with Decorex Africa

Cape Town: 5-8 June | Johannesburg: 24-27 July

Capitec handmadeAFRICA will kick off its 2025 calendar at Decorex Cape Town from 5 – 8 June and Decorex Johannesburg from 24 – 27 July. More than 40 exquisite brands will be showcased in the now distinctly recognisable Capitec handmadeAFRICA retail capsule at the iconic design showcase.

The events will also see the launch of the all-new Capitec handmadeAFRICA Design MRKT. Created in partnership with Decorex AFRICA, and run alongside Decorex in both cities, the Design MRKT is a fully-fledged artisanal market exhibiting an even more expansive showcase of Pan-African design. Visitors will have the opportunity to take their favourite pieces of design from the continent home with them.

“Partnering with Capitec handmadeAFRICA allows us to expand our vision and strengthen our shared mission of supporting small businesses, celebrating African creativity, and creating meaningful economic opportunities within the design industry. The addition of the Capitec handmadeAFRICA Design MRKT will enhance the visitor experience, offering a rich and immersive marketplace where design, culture, and commerce intersect,” says Sarah Jardim, Marketing Director for Decorex Africa.

Capitec handmadeAFRICA Oxford Parks Market goes massive

Oxford Parks, Rosebank, Johannesburg: 27 – 30 November

In November, Capitec handmadeAFRICA will be back to transform Johannesburg’s Oxford Parks into a luxury shopping experience, far away from the confines of the mall. The team has shown that retail can be presented differently, and in 2025, they’ll be even more daring. The expanded Capitec handmadeAFRICA Market will feature 40 standalone stalls, making this a must-visit on your South African shopping calendar. With a fresh intake of designers representing everything from suits and scents to African skate essentials, the visit will be worth every minute (and every cent).
