The Spice Route Destination in Paarl renowned for its curated culinary and sensory experiences has opened the doors to its newly renovated Chocolate Room by Beyers.
The must-visit spot is a feast for the senses, with walls, décor, and outdoor settings as vibrant as a chocolate box. It’s a haven for kids looking for a sweet adventure, offering just enough excitement to let parents take a breather from their daily entertainment duties. From chocolate tastings, indulgent milkshakes to toasted sandwiches, salads, and muffins, it certainly is a wholesome escape, even for parents. The new year will soon see the introduction of chocolate tutorials and a decadent chocolate fountain.
The Chocolate Room is the brainchild of Kees Beyers and managed by Louise Simonato. The newly revamped venture continues the Beyers legacy, complementing its existing tasting counters at the Beyers Factory Shop in Spartan and The Chocolate Factory by Beyers in Bedfordview, both in Johannesburg.
The space has been thoughtfully designed by Joanne Roelofsz, the founder of Joanne Interiors (Laughing Pig), whose creative vision sieves through the selective hues seen in the venue’s interior.
“Designing The Chocolate Room was about creating a multi-sensory experience that pays homage to cacao’s exotic history while aligning with the rich tapestry of The Spice Route’s narrative,” says Roelofsz.
The design combines warm earthy tones with luxurious elements such as polished brass and velvet, combining the raw origins of chocolate and its evolution in today’s modern backdrop that calls for colourful sites and Instagrammable content.
“For me, this project went beyond its aesthetics and functionality. We wanted to help build onto Beyers’ well recognised image among South African chocolate enthusiasts. It should be a place where visitors can pause and savour the richness of life itself.”
Spice Route Destination’s newest vendor recently hosted its “ribbon cutting” reveal earlier in December and is now open to the public, daily from 9:00 to 17:00.
