Immersed in a quiet enclave in the actual working kitchen of the historic hotel, the Chef’s Table experience is the embodiment of some of South Africa’s most loved dishes, all with a signature twist.
This secret space offers guests a chance to indulge in an exclusive culinary journey while engaging with Chef Luke, and connecting with Chef Isaac Chitter, and Sommelier Keegan Terry, who share intimate insights into their cooking techniques and the inspiration behind each dish.
In Chef Barry’s own words, the enticing tasting menu is “A bespoke journey through the memories and flavours we grew up with, surrounded by Aunts, Oumas and friends. We welcome you on a journey influenced by textures, spices and exquisite aromas from our childhood that inspire us to be the chefs we are today”.
Guests will be charmed by Chef Isaac’s interpretations and traditions aligned with each course.
The bespoke menu immediately transports diners to a place where family and friends gather at tables filled with abundance and chatter.

Pressed pap with chakalaka, red bell pepper sauce and cherry tomato ketchup
“Nienies”
Pan fried line fish, toasted hazelnut butter and handpicked gremolata
“Oom Fabian”
Butter poached crayfish, malay curry puree and grilled corn
“Gees”
Braaid wagyu beef sirloin, potato salad, green salad and monkey gland sauce
“Mommy”
Cheese craffle, smoked gruberg creme and pickled vegetables

Nyangbo cremeux, granadilla frozen yoghurt and vanilla chantilly roulade
While dishes change regularly with the seasons, the team could not be more accommodating when it comes to dietary requests and preferences.
As for wine pairings, Sommelier Keegan Terry knows his stuff! His knowledgeable and enthusiastic selections are a welcome enhancement to the gastronomic feast!
Dessert is a highlight—but unfortunately, they are not giving away any spoliers! Suffice to say, the Chef’s Table at The Nellie, is a treat for the senses, blending exquisite food, warm hospitality, and intimate atmosphere.
