On Saturday 18 November 2023, Battery Park at V&A Waterfront will be buzzing with culinary excitement as WWF-SASSI (Southern Africa Sustainable Seafood Initiative) hosts a sensational sustainable seafood summer cook-off. This celebratory event marks two decades of promoting sustainable seafood choices and conserving our oceans.
The exciting sustainable seafood cook-off extravaganza will feature renowned WWF-SASSI funders and partners including Vodacom, BRECO Seafoods, Pick n Pay, Two Oceans Aquarium, Woolworths, Nedbank and Shoprite/Checkers. Each team will be kitted out and will receive a mystery box filled with sustainable seafood ingredients challenging their culinary expertise to craft delectable dishes using WWF-SASSI green-listed seafood.
The distinguished celebrity judges include esteemed TV chefs Zola Nene (MasterChef) and Chris Kastern (Ultimate Braai Master Semi-finalist), alongside wild food innovator Roushanna Gray (Veld & Sea). Also joining the judges’ line-up to evaluate the teams’ final creations are WWF-SASSI’s chef ambassadors; indigenous forager Chef Gregory Henderson; award-winning cookbook author, Chef Jason Whitehead; and influencer Carishma Basday. The coveted title of ‘Recognition for the Best Sustainable Seafood Dish this Summer’ awaits the winning team.
Attendees can revel in a morning filled with family-friendly activities, entertainment, seafood tastings, food trucks and ocean conservation pop-up booths. Little ocean champs can enjoy a dedicated and supervised area featuring the WWF-SASSI Ocean Challenge Game, cut-out cards for playing and a jumping castle.
