The Nourished Woman Events: Bringing the Global Menopause Movement to South Africa

Menopause

Menopause is finally having its moment—and this time, the world is listening.

From Oprah Winfrey’s candid discussions to Halle Berry’s open advocacy, the conversation around menopause has been ignited globally. Recently, Tamsen Fadal hosted the “Hottest Menopause Party,” an event that brought together over 50,000 women worldwide, including South African-born, Berlin-based nutrition expert, Sasha Muller. As the founder of Good Nutrition by Sasha, Sasha shared her personal experience and expert insights on how nutrition plays a pivotal role in hormone health and symptom relief.

Now, she is bringing this global conversation home with The Nourished Woman Events in South Africa—a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering women to navigate perimenopause and menopause through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle strategies.

Why Now? The Silent Epidemic of Menopause Mismanagement

Despite the fact that every woman will go through menopause, the topic has long been neglected in healthcare, research, and mainstream media. A 2021 report in The Lancet confirmed that menopause research remains underfunded, leaving millions of women misdiagnosed or dismissed when seeking support for symptoms like brain fog, weight gain, sleep disturbances, and anxiety.

The gap is even wider for Black women, who, according to the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), experience perimenopause symptoms earlier, more severely, and for longer than white women—yet remain significantly underrepresented in menopause studies.

The Nourished Woman Event is here to change this.

The Science: How Nutrition Can Transform Perimenopause

A growing body of research confirms that targeted nutrition interventions can significantly ease perimenopausal symptoms.

  • A 2021 study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that insulin resistance increases in perimenopause, contributing to weight gain, fatigue, and metabolic dysfunction. A whole-food, blood sugar-balancing diet has been shown to counteract these effects and support metabolic health
  • Mark Hyman, founder of The Institute for Functional Medicine, has helped pioneer the understanding that food is medicine. His work, along with leading experts like Dr. Sara Gottfried (The Hormone Cure) and Dr. Mary Claire Haver (The Galveston Diet), demonstrates how nutrient-dense foods, gut health, and lifestyle changes can regulate hormones and improve midlife health.
  • Sasha Muller, an IPHM Board-Accredited Nutrition Coach, has contributed to this conversation on the global stage. Having presented her insights at Tamsen Fadal’s worldwide menopause event, Sasha is now bringing this cutting-edge nutritional approach to South Africa.
