A Decade of Impact

Since its inception in 2014, the Makhelwane Festival has transformed into a beacon of township tourism and economic empowerment. By offering small businesses and creatives a sustainable platform, the festival showcases the strength, innovation, and potential of township economies.
Festival Founder Sifiso Dlangamandla explains:“The Soweto Weekend Festival is more than just a celebration; it’s a platform to showcase the incredible potential of township economies. We are passionate about creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to grow, for products developed in our communities to shine, and for our people to be inspired to dream bigger. This festival is a testament to the strength, creativity, and resilience of our township communities, and we are proud to help drive sustainable growth and innovation from the ground up.”
