Joburg Ballet has announced a starry line-up of dancers for the leading roles in Don Quixote when the sparkling classic returns to the Joburg Theatre for eight performances from 29 September to 8 October.
At two of the performances during the 8-performance season Joburg Ballet will present major international ballet stars Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov of The Royal Ballet in the leading roles. As previously announced, Nunez and Muntagirov dance on Friday 6 October at 19h00 and Sunday 8 October at 14h00.
The other six performances showcase Joburg Ballet’s Tammy Higgins and Revil Yon, Monike Cristina and Ivan Domiciano and Darragh Hourrides and Ruan Galdino.
Set in the bustling Spanish seaport of Barcelona, Don Quixote tells the story of beautiful, audacious Kitri and her love for the dashing but poor Basilio. Her father, however, has more ambitious plans for his headstrong daughter, hoping to marry her off to a wealthy, foppish suitor. In the end, love conquers all in a cascade of classical ballet at its most spectacular.
Don Quixote is being staged for Joburg Ballet by Angela Malan and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lykele Temmingh, will play at all performances except at 11h00 on 5 and 6 October.
Joburg Ballet is grateful to The Michel Tesson Trust and the Friends of the Ballet for the generous support which has helped make the season of Don Quixote possible.
No ticket discounts are available for the Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov performances but for all other performances Joburg Ballet offers attractive discounts which include the Half Price Opening Night, Morning Matinees and discounts for Friends of the Ballet members, Pensioners, Groups 10+ and Children 4-7.
