Comic Con Africa is taking place this weekend at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, and with Saturday already sold out, the ultimate pop culture and gaming festival is ready to take over the city! Expect a larger-than-life gaming experience featuring free-play gaming, national esports tournaments, and casual competitions for everyone to enjoy. Here are some of the highlights:
Telkom
Bringing back their Home of Gaming to Hall 5 of Comic Con Africa, Telkom has an incredible R300 000 in prize money up for grabs! Telkom will be hosting the annual Telkom VS Gaming tournament where top esports professionals will go head-to-head in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO). Witness the heart-stopping moments and the crowning champion at the Telkom VS Gaming stage at 12:05 on Sunday.
In addition, Telkom is highlighting the future esports stars in the High School Esports League (HSEL), featuring two of the biggest titles in esports – Rocket League and CS: GO.
Open only to high school players, pre-qualified schools stand a chance to win R90 000, which will go towards upgrading their school’s esports facilities. Watch the CS: GO final at 9:20 on Friday ,and Rocket League at 14:40 on Friday in Hall 5.
Fans can also experience the thrill of the Telkom VS Gaming Championship Season 4 finals with an impressive R60 000 prize pool, featuring dedicated Rocket League players and newcomers in an intense elimination bracket. Experience the grand finals at 12:35 on Saturday.

Toyota
The Toyota Gaming Engine (TTGE) Room returns to Comic Con Africa this weekend, offering fans a variety of games for epic prizes. Titles include Street Fighter 6, Gran Turismo 7, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Brawl Stars.
TTGE will invite 10 top competitive sim-racing players to experience Comic Con Africa, where the 10 fastest racers in Gran Turismo 7 will qualify for an online tournament after the event – perfect for gamers without home setups to compete on a level playing field. The grand prize? One of five Toyota Gazoo Racing Advanced Driving Experiences!
Over the four days, the top three players in each challenge will win their share of R2 000 in Takealot vouchers daily. On Saturday, faceoffs against influencers will take place, offering four R3 000 Takealot vouchers and bragging rights to the winners.

Following its success at Comic Con Cape Town, the Doritos Crunch Cup VR League arrives at Comic Con Africa with the immersive rhythm game Beat Saber. Fans of all experience levels can casually participate or compete for a chance to win R1 000 daily, with gameplay broadcast live on giant screens – making spectating just as fun! Fans can register at the Doritos Crunch Zone (Hall 5) and participate from 9:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 15:00 daily.

Players will face off to build a Flamin’ Hot Streak, with the top performer of each session winning R1,000. Red Bull is bringing the excitement to Comic Con Africa 2024 with the Red Bull Gaming Ground, offering free-to-play Valorant and a Sim Racing challenge for all attendees. For the first time, fans can enjoy thrilling gaming action at Hall 5 and compete for a chance to win a Red Bull Showrun experience, taking place on 6th October 2024.
RGB Gaming
RGB Gaming, located in the KidsCon Hall (Hall 7), will be hosting a variety of vibrant and thrilling friendly competitions for young gamers. These titles include Minecraft (Thursday), The Gauntlet (Friday), Chained Together (Saturday), and a LEGO Fortnite challenge (Sunday).
