Exploring Melville Koppies East

Melville Koppies East

Go and join an 8km group guided hike on the last Sunday of the month (next one 25 August). Come on your own or with friends or family. The hike starts at Melville Koppies nature reserve/heritage site and goes straight up the Koppie and through the locked gate into Melville Koppies East which is open daily.

Experience the stark grassland of the south-facing slopes of Melville Koppies East with a direct view of Joburg’s CBD. No need to worry if you can’t make the 8km, when we break at about 3km you can choose to split from the group and find a short way back to the start and it’s safe to walk back on your own.

If 8km sounds too daunting, you can try our self-guided options: 5km trail, 3km heritage trail, 2nd Sunday of the month poetry reading and open mic session, the scavenger hunt for those with exploring minds. We’re open every Sunday from 8-11.30am. R90 adults, U18 – R50. If you want to learn more about the Koppies, book a guided tour (about 3km) on 079 532 0083. R100 adults, R50 U18.

Security is provided. Safe parking opposite the entrance to Melville Koppies at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia. All income used for maintenance of the Koppies.
