South Africa celebrates National Women’s Day on 09 August. The day commemorates the 1956 march of approximately 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
To celebrate this special day and Women’s Month, Johannesburg Opera will present ‘HEROINES IN OPERA AND SONG‘.

They are excited to bring a concert to Pretoria for the first time. On Friday, 11 August at the Nazareth House in Pretoria, the audience will be entertained by the Internationally acclaimed Bongiwe Nakani Mcetywa, one of the leading South African mezzo-sopranos who sang at the Vienna State Opera House and a well-known Classical Vocal Duo, The Opera Angels, comprising of British mezzo-sopranoLindsay Thomson and soprano/pianist Dr Lisa Engelbrecht.
They will perform songs from Princes Magogo (Khumalo/Klatzow), arias from Verdi’s Don Carlos, duets from Le nozze di FigaroLakméLittle WomenWest Side Story and more…

And on Sunday, 13 August at the Northwards House, Parktown, Johannesburg, the internationally acclaimed Bongiwe Nakani Mcetywa (mezzo-soprano) and South Africa’s amazing and well-known sopranoKhayakazi Madlala, accompanied by Dr Lisa Engelbrecht (Head Coach at Opera UCT) will entertain the audience.

They will perform songs from Princess MagogoQuilter’s Elizabethan song cycleVerdi’s Don Carlos and Aida.
