American Express Sponsors First Thursdays at Keyes Art Mile in Johannesburg

Keyes Art Mile

American Express amplifies its engagement with South Africa’s art community by sponsoring Johannesburg’s next edition of First Thursdays, taking place at Keyes Art Mile, on June 6.

Here, Amex Card Members can anticipate exclusive access and discounts at participating galleries, stores and select local restaurants in the Rosebank district when purchasing with their Amex card. Plus, Card Members are invited to an activation in the MESH members club, upstairs at Keyes, where a DJ will be on the decks for the night and award-winning mixologist Lucy Magic will be offering a one-night only #amexfirstthursdays cocktail to Card Members.

With the 2023 Amex ZA Graphic Arts Challenge winner, Mark Modimola’s winning artwork spanning across the building of the Keyes Art Mile, this instalment of Amex First Thursdays immerses guests in the local artist landscape.

This event also coincides with the launch of the Reflecting B(l)ack photographic book by The Manor, featuring the works of several photographers from across the continent, including the likes of Andile Buka, Mary Sibande, as well as The Manor founder and award-winning artist, Trevor Stuurman. The launch of the book will be celebrated with an exhibition of Reflecting B(l)ack featuring artist, X, at the Keyes Arts Mile.

In the vibrant cultural landscape of South Africa, American Express stands as a beacon of support for artistic engagement, offering its Card Members exclusive access to a curated selection of arts events and initiatives.

Emphasising the company’s dedication to enhancing the arts experience for its card members, James Wainaina, Vice President of Business Development, East and Southern Africa at American Express, remarks, “by offering our card members unique opportunities to engage with the arts, we aim to enhance the overall experience for the Amex community while simultaneously contributing to the growth and sustainability of the arts industry.”

“We believe in bringing about meaningful change,” states Buli Ndlovu, Executive Head of Retail and Business Banking Marketing at Nedbank, and American Express Financial Services Partner in South Africa, reflecting on the partnership. “Through our sponsorship and alignment with First Thursdays, we aim to showcase South Africa’s immense local talent and foster creativity, innovation, and community engagement. We invite everyone to join us on this exciting journey of inspiration.”
