Call for Applications: IMPRESARIO for the Less Good Idea

The Centre for the Less Good Idea has reached its 10th Season of collaborative, experimental and interdisciplinary work. Season 10 will be celebrated in a five day festival this October 18 – 22.

As it looks to 2024 and beyond, The Centre will be launching a new way of incubating and programming.

The Centre for the Less Good Idea invites proposals from those who might imagine themselves as Impresarios of the Less Good Idea from January 2024 onwards.

The first Impresario will be given two years to develop and implement a unique performative programme within our spaces. This programme will run alongside and intersect with SO | The Academy for the Less Good Idea, as well as The Centre Outside The Centre. The first Impresario will be expected to join The Centre team over the final months of development and showing of Season 10 in October 2023 and will be compensated accordingly.

The Impresario will be expected to invent new incubation and development strategies, curate unique programming and draw new artists and thinkers towards The Centre.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboratively curating and identifying interdisciplinary, collaborative and hands-on programming (performances and installations, incubative workshops, public conversations and online content).
  • Collaborating and communicating closely with The Centre core team on all intersecting programming between the key projects within the existing infrastructure of The Centre.
  • An ability to leverage off existing momentum and the vision currently within The Centre.
  • Creating calls for participation, identifying, and holding of invited artists on all fronts.
  • To be in close consultation with the public communication strategies on The Centre’s website, social media accounts and monthly newsletters.
Engaging the existing cultural and creative educational landscape in South Africa and building projects that respond to and work within the gaps.

Your response to the call should be compiled as ONE PDF DOCUMENT (MAX 3 PAGES) that includes:

  • Five bullet point ideas of the type of projects you would create at The Centre.
  • A Curriculum Vitae that demonstrates a history of curating, communication and project management skills as well as an eagerness to make a valuable contribution to South Africa’s art world as well as the growth of The Centre.

Please note that, due to the high volume of applications we receive, only successful applicants will be contacted. Interviews with these applicants will take place over the course of September. Salary negotiation will take place during the interview process.
